Nature & the Environment

Protecting nature and the environment is an important part of our curriculum.  Every spring our children enjoy planting and growing flowers. Children also help grow tomatoes, cucumbers and herbs. The home-grown produce are a welcome seasonal addition to our lunch menu. YUM!

A special rain garden on the children’s playground teaches children about soil erosion. During lessons they discover which plants best absorb rainwater and help with erosion problems.

Children study the various trees, plants, and other vegetation that grow on and surround our preschool grounds. They learn to be respectful of the birds, butterflies, and larger wildlife.

Each spring, our science project includes the creation of a butterfly habitat. Children observe the cycle of life as caterpillars turn into butterflies and are released into the flower garden.
